About the Glos
The So So Glos are not just another band from Brooklyn.
The So So Glos are four brothers- two blood, a step, and one inducted.
All the same, if you use these terms around the band, they will tell
you, "a brother is a brother is a brother". They are a part of
Brooklyn, and its apparent upon meeting them that the metropolis is
pumping through their veins. Their music reflects not only the city
that birthed them but also the strange, exciting and paralyzing times
we live in. The Glos are bold, rough, artful and sincere all at the
same time and whether they play a stripped down love song, or a
raucous anthem echoing as much Bob Dylan as it does Richard Hell, they
make us dance. When lead singer Alex Levine, (21 & the youngest of the
brothers) incites an audience to dance, we do. We dance because the
urgency and energy of The So So Glos live is, if nothing else, a call
for movement. Isn't this the reason we listened to music in the first
place?
Beginning with their roots in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn the Glos have been a
workhorse in the music and art community in their own borough. The
band settled down between tours for a short while in Bushwick to
co-found (with Todd P) the landmark all ages venue, Market Hotel.
Last Summer, The So So Glos became the 1st act to release with Green
Owl. They just saw Europe for the 1st time when invited to tour with
Trail of Dead and opened for Santigold at Powershift (an environmental
youth rally held in DC which had over 5,000 in attendance).
More recently, the group released a Daytrotter session after
their shortplayer album Tourism / Terrorism made Robert Christgau's
best of 2009 list. This is the same band that was awarded "Best Band
in New York City" by NY Press when they were playing sweaty in Brooklyn
basements. With more touring and plans ahead and plans for a new album out in
2010, they have their eyes on all of you. You best not be the last to dance.
